Objective

Control the ball with the first touch and pass with the second to build a clean receive-and-release habit.

Equipment

  • balls
  • cones

Instructions

  1. 1

    Partners stand 8 yards apart.

  2. 2

Player A passes to Player B.

  3. 3

Player B controls with their first touch (settling the ball close), then passes back with their second touch.

  4. 4

Player A does the same. Continue for 60 seconds.

  5. 5

Each pair counts consecutive two-touch passes without a mistake.

Coaching Points

  • First touch goes to the side — open up so the second touch is a clean pass.
  • Keep the first touch small, not a big knock away.
  • Be ready before the ball arrives: balanced, on your toes.

Age Notes

U8

Let them take three touches if two is too hard at first. Count out loud: "touch — pass!" every rep to build the rhythm.

Variations

  • After the first touch, pass to a different partner to add decision-making.
  • Add a cone target 2 yards away — the first touch must land inside the target zone.
