Objective

Practice turning with the ball under control and accelerating into space.

Equipment

  • Ball
  • Cones

Instructions

  1. 1

    Place two cones 10 yards apart.

  2. 2

    Dribble to the far cone, perform a 180° turn using the sole of the foot to drag the ball back.

  3. 3

    Accelerate back to the start cone and repeat.

  4. 4

    Do 5 reps with the right foot leading, then 5 with the left.

Coaching Points

  • Plant the non-dominant foot beside the ball before turning.
  • Use the sole to roll the ball — not a big kick around.
  • Head up as soon as the turn is complete to find space.

Age Notes

U8

Walk through the turn first — foot on top, roll back, step away — before adding any speed.

Variations

  • Use a Cruyff turn instead of a sole roll.
  • Add a defender who applies light pressure from behind.
