Objective

Use a rotational step over the ball to unbalance a defender.

Equipment

  • Ball
  • Cones

Instructions

  1. 1

    Approach a cone slowly with the ball at your feet.

  2. 2

    Circle one foot over and around the ball in a rotational motion without touching it.

  3. 3

    Push the ball in the opposite direction with the outside of the other foot.

  4. 4

    Do 10 reps each side.

Coaching Points

  • The step-over must be convincing — exaggerate the arc of the foot.
  • Keep the ball still during the step-over so the touch away is clean.
  • Burst of speed after the touch is essential.

Variations

  • Double step-over before the push away.
  • Perform against a live passive defender.
