Objective

Develop explosive acceleration and competitive sprint speed through short race repetitions.

Equipment

Instructions

  1. 1

    Partners stand side by side at a start line.

  2. 2

    Coach calls "go" — both sprint 20 yards to the finish cone.

  3. 3

    Walk back to start. Repeat 8 times.

  4. 4

    Track wins per player.

  5. 5

    Progress to 30- and 40-yard races.

Coaching Points

  • Drive the knees high in the first 5 yards.
  • Arms pump straight — not across the body.
  • Stay relaxed through the face and shoulders at top speed.

Age Notes

U8

Use fun names — "cheetah race" — and celebrate all players equally.

Variations

  • Reaction start: sprint on a ball drop signal instead of a call.
