Objective

Develop accurate finishing across the face of goal from a wide angle.

Equipment

  • Balls
  • Goal
  • Cones

Instructions

  1. 1

Place a cone at a 45° angle, 10–12 yards from goal on the right side.

  2. 2

Player dribbles to the cone and shoots low across the goalkeeper to the far post.

  3. 3

Complete 5 reps from the right, then mirror on the left side.

  4. 4

Aim below knee height — keep it on the ground.

Coaching Points

  • Open your body slightly to allow a clean across-goal finish.
  • Strike through the inside of the ball to direct it far post.
  • Low and hard — goalkeepers struggle most with ground shots.

Age Notes

U8

Reduce to 6 yards and focus on striking with the inside of the foot — accuracy over power.

Variations

  • Add a goalkeeper for realistic pressure.
  • Deliver a cut-back pass from the byline instead of dribbling to the cone.
